Under the supervision of the Chief Credit Officer, has responsibility for residential loan underwriting, including analyzing and approving or declining credit request with a focus towards maintaining a high quality loan portfolio and ongoing process improvements. Will assist with loan compliance and assist as the technical support coordinator for all lending related systems.
RE Loan Underwriter is a highly experienced position. Incumbents must possess a thorough understanding and knowledge of consumer and residential mortgage lending programs, product features, policies and regulations as well as Association lending systems and software applications. Incumbent will be responsible for managing the Association’s lending compliance program. Coordinates and reports on lending compliance program results to the Board of Directors and various federal and state regulatory agencies. Incumbent will be the primary point of contact for loan systems implementation and upgrades as well as set-up of new loan products and technical issue resolution within existing software systems.
Minimum Job Requirements:
B.A. /B.S. or advanced formal training in appropriate discipline and relevant professional experience. Three to five years’ previous lending experience, including at least three years actual underwriting experience.
Knowledge of basic lending and underwriting policies and procedures including state and federal lending regulations. Understanding of secondary marketing practices and requirements (FHLMC, FNMA etc.)
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, site plans and maps, residential and commercial appraisals.
Highly developed analytical skills including analysis of tax returns and financial statements.
Ability to work with technical aspects of software systems, including coding of new lending products and services, resolution of technical matters related to systems and interface with vendors and the IT Department to resolve technical issues.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Products, loan software applications and various company systems.
Strong math skills; ability to compute discount, interest, profit and loss, markup and selling price, ratio and proportion, cash flow analysis and percentage; as well as determine principle and interest payments to amortize loans.
Demonstrated decision-making and effective problem solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Effective interpersonal skills to relate to a variety of managers, executives, directors, customers, employees and vendors; public relations skills; tact, diplomacy, and patience.
Valid state driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as accomplish work assignments without direct supervision and tight schedules.
Licensing Requirements: Will be required to 1) register with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry and complete a MU4R filing notice, 2) to provide fingerprints and 3) to authorize a criminal background screen through the Registry in compliance with the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (S.A.F.E. Act). First Federal will facilitate the individual registration and pay all applicable registration fees.
