The Personal Lines UW Team Manager leads a team of underwriters (teams process business by state) to effectively underwrite Personal Lines new applications and renewal business. Manages direct reports, systems and projects to achieve unit and strategic state goals. Establishes, communicates and implements departmental plans, objectives, and strategies.
Underwrites risk (i.e., selection/rejection of new and renewal business). Administers and monitors underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations. Analyzes quality and quantity of risks underwritten and prepares reports accordingly. Reviews new applications and in-force business with higher degrees of risk not processed by automated systems. May review agency books of business as well as profit/growth results and trends to recommend and implement action plans. Products, processes, and systems vary by division. The role will focus on leading projects that support underwriting operations initiatives.
Manages all components of the American Family Lean System within their unit.
Provides leadership by exhibiting all aspects of lean leadership behaviors, thus affecting a culture of continuous improvement.
Manages the evaluation of risks standards (selections, classification, characteristics, etc.) for new and renewal Personal Lines products consistent with division and company goals.
Builds and maintains communications with sales leadership and business partners to advance company goals
Manage the oversight and accountability of service level agreements and operational goals of the team.
Oversees the standards and procedures necessary to achieve desired results for servicing personal lines products. Coordinates audits to achieve desired performance standards.
Establishes, communicates, and implements departmental plans, objectives, and strategies. Participates as a member of the Leadership Team.
Maintains an active awareness of American Family's business environments, corporate culture, and structure to support key decision-making.
Manages direct reports, systems, and projects to achieve department/unit goals in accordance with Company policies and practices.
Prepares and analyzes department/unit plans and reports and is accountable to ensure follow up action is communicated and implemented as needed.
Provides leadership by exhibiting influence and expertise, thus affecting the results of the operating area.
Creates an effective work environment by developing a common vision, setting clear objectives, expecting teamwork, recognizing outstanding performance, and maintaining open communications.
Develops staff through coaching, providing performance feedback, providing effective performance assessments, and establishing performance & development plans.

This position is available for remote work. Travel up to 20% may be required when safe to do so.
