Appraise and underwrite applications for insurance to assess mortality and morbidity risk within company guidelines, assuring equitable treatment of policyholders and producers while meeting the company's financial objectives.
o Possess a well-versed knowledge of medical terminology, medicine, medical science and symptomology, non-medical and financial risk selection methodologies, MIB, legal and regulatory limitations, contractual provisions, products, morbidity and mortality, underwriting guidelines, manuals, and operating systems o Proficient in working and processing in an underwriter/new business system, underwriting manuals, websites, and other productivity tools o Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills; attention to detail with the ability to quickly identify information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances of events o Strong organizational and planning skills; able to plan, organize and effectively manage through multiple daily/weekly tasks, meet agreed upon target dates and service level agreements o Excellent communication (verbal and written), team building, strong interpersonal and customer engagement, and negotiation skills o Consistently organizes and expresses ideas/assessments clearly and concisely o Demonstrate excellent collaboration skills including patience, diplomacy, tactfulness, effective listening skills, and professionalism o Ability to build trust by treating others with respect, offers to help and/or assist others to achieve goals
Minimum Qualifications * 5+ years of Life Underwriting experience * Strong oral and written communication skills * Works well independently and as a team member in an ever-changing environment
Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree preferred and industry related designations or course work a plus to include LOMA or ALU related courses or designations. * Normal EKG interpretation certification a plus * Approval level $5M + preferred
