USC Credit Union is located steps from USC's University Park campus near Downtown Los Angeles. We're looking for an eager candidate to join our team as a Consumer Loan Underwriter. This position is responsible for underwriting consumer loan applications (e.g., personal, auto, home equity) as well as building and fostering relationships with USCCU's members and potential members. This role reviews applications, credit reports, and supporting documentation to make loan decisions and offer customized solutions using in-depth knowledge of USCCU products, services, and technologies.
Reviewing member information including credit reports and other third-party data
Making sound lending decisions in line with underwriting guidelines
Examining and verifying supporting documentation (e.g. proof of income, vehicle valuations)
Building member relationships by identifying opportunities and providing guidance to staff for recommending products and services
Being a resource to staff on lending practices, policies, and procedures
Providing technical training to other lending personnel
Collaborating with credit union staff to deliver high quality services to members
Maintaining portfolio lending quality standards
Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Supporting the consumer lending team with other duties as assigned
Minimum Education:High school or equivalentMinimum Experience:5 yearsMinimum Field of Expertise:Five yearsâ experience in financial services, consumer lending, and/or underwriting. Clear understanding of underwriting and fair lending practices, fair credit reporting, and lending regulations. Demonstrated credit union experience, and knowledge of relevant policies and procedures. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral and written communication skills to produce concise and logical reports, proposals, and correspondence. Demonstrated experience interacting with communities diverse with regard to cultures, backgrounds, and socioeconomic status, exercising diplomacy, tact, and discretion. Ability to help foster environments of trust, collaboration, transparency, and accountability. Proven ability to successfully multitask and shift priorities. Experience resolving conflicts, problem solving, and encouraging partnerships.
