We are looking for an organized, professional, strategic individual to join as a Business Services Underwriter II. The Business Services Underwriter II is responsible for underwriting new business loan requests and maintaining portfolio safety and soundness by servicing high dollar-complex existing loans. This position requires the employee to communicate directly with business owners to determine needs and to inquire about business finances and operations.
What does GTE look for in a Business Services Underwriter II?
Lending:
This action involves reviewing all aspects of the business, such as cash flow, management ability, and education background of leaders, reviewing financial information, feasibility, capital, and total understanding of financial statements.
Complete a compressive credit approval memo including a full financial analysis as well as a narrative on the business operations.
Maintain a lending authority level and approve loans within the assigned lending authority.
Underwriting, analyzing, and structuring loans to meet the needs of the business member while adhering to NCUA regulations and the guidelines of the credit union. Determining terms, amounts, type, payment, renewal, etc.
Remain knowledgeable of business loan policies and guidelines of the credit union and underwrite loans in accordance with those guidelines.
Responsible for managing the member business loan portfolio servicing, including overseeing past due collections, collecting periodic financial statements, and coordinating annual reviews.
Manage portfolio reporting, including delinquency reports, special asset reports, classified asset reviews, financial statement tickler reports, and monthly management reports.
Strategy:
Train and mentor junior-level portfolio specialists.
Identifying and cross-selling appropriate services to fulfill the needs of the individuals associated with business members in addition to the business.
Demonstrate effective leadership and negotiation skills, with the ability to motivate team members, employees, and members.
Quickly adapt to new programs, software, and changes to current operating systems.
Ability to operate and understand internal operating programs and software relative to the areas managed.
Understanding of financial analysis and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Innovative and “out of the box” thinker, possessing an analytical and creative approach to problem-solving.
Skills:
Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills to effectively communicate with management, co-workers, and members.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to effectively negotiate positions with internal partners, staff, direct reports, and leadership team.
Present a professional image to management, staff, internal partners, and outside groups, members, and vendors.
Operations:
Independent worker. Ability to manage workflow, pipeline, and portfolio management with minimal oversight.
Must demonstrate a functional knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act in addition to other Federal laws, including but not limited to the U.S. Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets & Control, Anti-Money Laundering, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and the Bank Bribery Act.
Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish).
Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate Degree in a business administration field. Accounting or finance bachelor’s degree preferred. Or 10 years of business loan underwriting experience equivalent
Minimum 5 years of business loan underwriting experience.
Position Details:
Location: Downtown Tampa – GTE Headquarters
Department Hours: Monday– Friday (8:00 am to 6:00 pm) // Saturday (9:00 am to 1:00 pm)
Full-time hours are required, with additional hours as necessary to accomplish objectives, goals, and projects.
Work arrangements (in-office, hybrid, or remote) may be changed at any time by management with appropriate notice if possible.

Must live in a location that can leverage an existing high-speed internet service.
Candidates must provide and meet all technical requirements before the first day of training.
