As part of the Research Project Management Office (PMO) within the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED). The Research Portfolio Manager will champion and drive research and economic development at UNL by providing robust and comprehensive grants facilitation services for Principal Investigators or university units who have large scale research portfolio(s). The PMO enables coordination and oversight of portfolios and projects, in support of research driven initiatives. The Research Portfolio Manager is a customer-facing consultative role that provides a process driven approach, operating procedures and supporting systems to lead successful projects throughout the project lifecycle.
The Research Portfolio Manager (RPM) II: Under the direction of the PI or Unit Director, is responsible for the day to day management/operations of large scale research portfolios. The RPM is a member of a faculty or UNIT support team that provides the best possible customer service to the PI and lab members in support of their research activities. Providing guidance on budget planning and effective utilization of research resources for all on going projects within the PI or Units portfolio. Deliver administrative services such as study subject payments and tracking, accounts payable facilitation, purchasing, scheduling meetings, and portfolio communications. Prepares progress reports Independently and collaboratively. Provide specialized guidance to PI and staff in gaining knowledge of, acquiring, and finalizing external proposals. Provide oversight, training and/or mentoring for PMO interns. Also provide oversight and training for departmental-level professional and support staff assigned to grant activities.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience in pre- or post-award research administration; Equivalent education/experience considered. Intermediate knowledge/track record in project management. Expert knowledge of various government agency and corporate-sponsored program requirements and practices. Ability to work independently and make decisions under general direction from research project team(s). Ability to balance and complete multiple priority tasks simultaneously. Ability to build trust and effective working relationships with clients – both internal and external. Excellent time management and organization skills. Skill using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ability to quickly learn other software.
Designation of CAPM, PMP, CRPA, CPFA, or CRA or expected to acquire within 18 months of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors in business administration, financial, research administration, or project management. Project management experience and/or research administration experience working in higher education in a high-volume, high-production, and/or sponsored research-intensive environment. Experience working a in business, financial, or grant management role in a university department, unit, center, or college. Experience in supervising. Experience preparing and delivering training programs and shared resources and tools helpful. Skill using Smartsheet or other project management software. SAP, WordPress, and social media platforms helpful. Experience in federal sponsor electronic portals, such ASSIST, research.gov, or grants.gov is helpful.
Designation of CAPM, PMP, CRPA, CPFA, or CRA is preferred.
